“Holmes Approved” Surge Protectors

Interesting little bit of news from 4-traders.com. Mike Holmes is working with the industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation to create a "Holmes Approved" electrical surge protector. When they say "surge protector," they're not talking about those little power strips you buy at Walmart to plug your computer and TV into; they're talking whole-house surge protectors, which are installed onto a home's breaker box. Installing a whole-house electrical surge protector has been something Mike Holmes has been an avid advocate of for many years, ever since his house was struck by lightning, zapping out every single piece of electrical equipment in his home -- even the microwave and the toaster, recalled Mike a couple of times over the years in various interviews and video clips. I can't imagine walking into my home and finding that my computer and TV are now nothing more than expensive paperweights. Mike certainly can relate to that, and he wants to spare homeowners the same inconvenience.

Eaton and HGTV's Mike Holmes Announce "Holmes Approved" Surge Protectors

PITTSBURGH …Mike Holmes, contractor and host of the television show "Holmes on Homes," and diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation, a global leader in electrical power management, today announced a collaboration to offer homeowners a line of "Holmes Approved" electrical surge protectors.

When installed on a home's breaker box, Eaton's surge products can help prevent or minimize damage to electronic devices, home appliances and other equipment in the event of electrical surges.
"People never think it could happen, but it happened to me," said Mike Holmes. "A large electrical surge entered my house and I lost all my electronics that were plugged in. All of them. The first thing I did after replacing everything was install an Eaton Complete Home Surge protector."

Mike Holmes is an advocate for homeowner and building safety. All projects and initiatives undertaken by the star contractor are defined by quality, integrity and trust. Eaton's product innovation, superior customer service and commitment to doing business right makes the collaboration a logical next step.

"In an era of increasingly sophisticated and costly electronics and household appliances, homeowners have a lot on the line," said Joanne Edwards, vice president and general manager, Eaton Corporation. "When a surge happens, their best defense is comprehensive surge protection."

"I've been using these devices for years on the homes I work on," added Holmes. "Don't learn the hard way. It's always better to prevent than replace."

  1. Hi,

I am building a house and want to put in this whole home surge protector. The builders electrician is trying to get us not to do it. I want to install the CHSPT2ULTRA as that seems to be the best one.

Are there any cons to doing this? I am not clear why this electrician is so against them.

    Thanks,

    Sean Donaghey
